At the Landrum City council meeting on Tuesday night, a resolution honoring and in memory of Mr. Joseph “Joe” Cunningham, Jr. was presented with appreciation of the many contributions he had given to Landrum.
Cunningham was one of the founders of the Landrum Farmers Market and his dream was to construct a permanent building to accomadate the vendors at the market. The City of Landrum built and opened a new pavilion that serves as a permanent home for the Farmers Market. This facility contributes to the agriculture benefit, economic, and public health as well as visitor appeal of Landrum. In 2021, Cunningham was named Landrum Citizen of the Year recognizing his role in the Farmers Market and in the community. Sadly, Joe passed away on July 12, 2023, but his memory will live on in our hearts and at the market pavilion.
Mayor Bob Briggs and the city council resolved that the Landrum Farmers Market building be named in memory of Joe and shall be known as the Joe Cunningham, Jr. Market Pavilion.
