Public Invitation to Proposed Fairwinds Park Meeting
On May 2, 2023 the public is invited to share their ideas for a proposed new park in Landrum. The Landrum City Council is considering the purchase of a 119+ acre parcel on Fairwinds Road for a new community park. Preliminary development plans for the property from a potential buyer consisted of more than 300 homes. The Landrum City Council believes the purchase of the property will enable the ability of local youth to have additional sports fields as well as preserve valuable open space for current and future residents as well as visitors to our area.
Studio Main, a landscape architecture and planning firm, has been hired by the City of Landrum to prepare a conceptual plan for the proposed park. This plan will provide the residents and the city council a vision of how the area may be developed. The park design will be completed and provided to the voters by the end of this summer.
As the city begins preparing the design plan, the public is invited to share their ideas and preferences for property in a meeting with Studio Main. At least two public meetings with Studio Main are planned. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. at Landrum City Hall, 100 N. Shamrock Avenue. The City Council invites all interested residents to attend.
For the city to purchase the property, the Landrum voters must approve a referendum to increase property taxes at municipal election to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The exact amount of the property tax increase will be determined by the city’s independent financial advisor and will be publicly noticed at least 60 days prior to the November election.
