Winter Storm WATCH is in effect for Greenville & Spartanburg Counties from 7AM Friday until 7AM Saturday. A decision to upgrade to a Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Warning should be made today.
Emergency Management continues to monitor the forecast for winter weather Friday into Saturday morning. As anticipated, the forecast has shifted some. The onset of the snow will occur between 11AM and 1PM Friday. The changeover from snow to sleet/freezing rain looks to occur around the Friday evening rush hour and continue into early Saturday morning. We'll have snow and then a layer of ice on top of it.

Precipitation Forecast
Snow:
1" or less: Southern Greenville County
1-2": I-85 Corridor
2-3": Areas around Travelers Rest and northward to Highway 11
3-4": Along and north of Highway 11
Ice Accumulation:
0.10 - 0.25": along and south of I-85
0.01 - .10": along and north of I-85 to Travelers Rest area
Timing: Friday around 11AM to early Saturday morning around 6-7AM.
Impacts: Slippery road conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Glaze of ice on elevated surfaces is possible. Isolated power outages and downed tree limbs may occur. After the storm passes, areas of black ice are possible on untreated roads.
Note:
Any change in the track of the storm or any change in the forecast temperatures aloft will change the snow and ice totals. Expect this forecast to change some before Friday.
